How to Play Uno - Card Games

Uno is one of America's most favorite card games and is a game fun for all ages. To play this card game, you need an Uno deck, which is sold in most drug stores and toy stores. Uno is not a game one normally bets on, it is played more for entertainment than money.

An Uno deck has 108 cards, which is more than double that of a traditional playing card deck. Each player is dealt a total of seven cards, all face down, which they then look at, but do not allow anyone else to see. The remaining cards are placed face down in the center of the table. The top card in the remaining pile is flipped over and put face up next to the pile of cards in the center of the table. This is the discard pile.

Beginning with the person to the left of the dealer and rotating clockwise around the circle, each player takes a turn picking a card from the large card pile facing down in the center of the table and seeing if he or she can discard. A card can only be discarded if it is either the same number or color of the card on top of the discard pile. Uno cards generally come in four different colors: Blue, Green, Red and Yellow. They are all numbered and some have pictures. Generally, if a player matches the color, number of picture on the card, they can discard as many cards that match. There are also four wild cards found in an Uno deck and can be discarded at any time during the game when it is the player's turn.

It is generally easier to match the colors in the discard pile than the numbers. If someone matches red eight card with a green eight card, the color changes to green and when that player is finished, the next player can discard green cards or cards with the same number.

Because the colors are continually changing, the game tends to be fast paced and exciting. When a player is down to one card in his or her hand, he or she has to call out "Uno" to alert the other players that they may be going out. The first person to go out wins the game, however the person can only go out after they have picked up a card from the draw pile.

If you want to play Uno but do not have an Uno deck, you can try it with two regular decks of playing cards. Simply combine the decks to make one large deck and add the jokers. The jokers act as "wild cards" and can be used in any instance. Instead of going by colors, go by suits, such as hearts, clubs, diamonds and spades.

Uno is a fun, exciting card game for both young and old alike. An Uno game generally takes about a half an hour and can be played over and over again. It is an ideal game to play during the cold winter months when people tend to stay indoors.
